Descendientes de José Palacios works from the principle that great wine comes from reading a landscape with precision. Álvaro Palacios and Ricardo Pérez focus on old Mencía vineyards, biodiversity and careful manual work in mountainous Bierzo. Their aim is to make elegant, site-specific wines in which village, slope and individual plot can be recognised, with as little disruption as possible to their natural expression.

The estate was founded in 1999 and is centred around Corullón, where fragmented old vineyards lie on steep slopes. Slate, altitude and Atlantic influence bring tension to the Mencía. The producer works with a hierarchy of regional, village and single-vineyard wines. Organic certification covers both grapes and wine; its biodynamic methods are not Demeter certified.

Descendientes de José Palacios works old, high-altitude vineyards around Corullón, seeking a refined, terroir-driven expression of Bierzo. Serve at cellar temperature with roast meat, mushrooms, stews, pulses or mature cheese.
