Hungarian Wine Legislation – Official Wine Areas

Reference date: 3 August 2026.

Hungary has 37 protected wine areas (31 PDO + 6 PGI), spread across 22 wine regions in 6 wine areas, with approximately 65,000 ha of vineyards.

The system is administered by HNT (Hegyközségi Nemzeti Tanácsa), the National Council of Wine Communities.
