Vineyard of Walgate Wines

Walgate Wines produces site-specific wines in Rye using a calm, precise and low-intervention approach. Winemaker Ben Walgate aims to place the quality of English grapes centre stage, combining natural techniques with sufficient time for development and maturation.

The winery uses grapes from selected growers across South East England. It works with qvevri, neutral vessels and indigenous yeasts, among other techniques. The range includes still wine, pét-nat and traditional-method sparkling wine. The urban winery uses fruit from several English vineyards, so the grape source, vintage and vinification can vary significantly from one bottling to another.

Blanc from 2023 from Walgate Wines is a white wine in a 75cl bottle. The style is dry. In aroma and taste, warm stone fruit, tropical fruit and lychee, with soft acidity and a broad, textural taste, come to the fore. Whole bunches of Ortega and Auxerrois were immediately pressed and fermented in fiberglass and old wood. The wine is made from Ortega, Auxerrois. The alcohol content is 11.1%. Serve with seafood, salads or soft cheeses.
