Which countries belong to the EEA and EFTA
The European Economic Area (EEA, often confused with “EEC”) comprises 30 countries: the 27 EU Member States plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. These latter three belong to EFTA (European Free Trade Association) together with Switzerland.
All 27 countries of the European Union that belong to the EEA:

- Croatia — HR
- Cyprus — CY
- Czechia — CZ
- Denmark — DK
- Estonia — EST
- Finland — FIN
- France — F
- Germany — D
- Greece — GR
- Hungary — H
- Ireland — IRL
- Italy — I
- Latvia — LV
- Lithuania — LT
- Luxembourg — L
- Malta — M
- Netherlands — NL
- Poland — PL
- Portugal — P
- Romania — RO
- Slovakia — SK
- Slovenia — SLO
- Spain — E
- Sweden — S
Non-EU countries in the EEA
In addition to the EU Member States, three EFTA countries are part of the EEA:
- Iceland — IS
- Liechtenstein — FL
- Norway — N
Switzerland — CH is a member of EFTA, but not of the EU and not of the EEA. It rejected EEA membership in a referendum in 1992.
United Kingdom — GB has no longer been a member of the EEA since Brexit (January 2020).
